You every have those days when Christmas shopping isn't as much fun as it used to be? I enjoy the day, for much more than the gifts.
I appreciate the reason for the season most of all but that is not what I am writing about.
It is especially difficult to find the right gift sometimes. This year we decided to (hope they don't read this) do something a bit different.
The grand children are always going to get gifts but our adult children they have gotten progressively more difficult to surprise. Even when we manage to surprise them it is less often. Maybe because we ask them what they want they tell us and we buy it!
This year we didn't ask. In fact we have had a few questions from them, do you need any ideas for Christmas on what we could use? We answered, "Nope, we have it all under control" and gave a wink. I am sure that puzzled them or maybe even made them a bit squeamish, wondering what they might get.
The fact is, I was giving this year a bit more consideration. Because of the economy I felt they might appreciate something they could really use. Many times I have re-gifted items brand new because I have one or would never use the item. I am not one to waste so a friend or other relative gets a brand new something for their anniversary or birthday. This does not mean I didn't appreciate the gesture or the gift. I certainly didn't share the eventual location or use of the gift to hurt anyone's feelings either.
So this year we decided to give the gift that allow the recipient to enjoy the exact item or service we would probably never have gotten for them.
We are giving them a prepaid debit card. Like a credit card only with a prepaid amount that can be spent in any store or gas station that accepts credit cards.
You may think this isn't a personal enough gift. In an economy where families have young children, gas and groceries take a bigger bite out of budgets. We are sure they are fine but it might just give them a family night out they wouldn't normally do. It might get something repaired that we didn't know about.
It might be the right Christmas present this year for them. Christmas Gift Options, Ho-Ho-HO...I hope so!
