I spent the better part of the afternoon at KFDI, a local radio station, with some members of the Wichita Area Association of Realtors and the Wichita police department wrapping presents for kids that probably wouldn't be getting many otherwise.
Every year the Wichita police department and KFDI have a huge project collecting lot's of toys for needy families in the area. The Wichita Area Association of Realtors and other community organizations collect toys that must be new and still in the package to be distributed. The police officers actually go throughtheir neighborhoods talking to the people to find the families that could most use the help. Kids from the families are asked what they would like for Christmas and matches are made.
Today when we showed up to help wrap the presents they were stacked along the walls with the child’s name on the package with a post it note. Each toy or article of clothing is wrapped separately and a name tag is stuck on the package. All the presents for that family are then put in a large bag and delivered to the home by one of Wichita’s finest.
It’s really a very good thing!
There were hundreds and hundreds of gifts to wrap. It's not just one present per child but a whole Christmas.
I'm really proud of our City and our association for the things we do to help those in need.
