Blogging Works - How Fast? Well, How Much Do You Want to Blog?

For those that have never blogged before people often ask,  “what and the world could I possibly blog about and who would want to read it?” Could I actually get leads from blogging?blogging for leads

The answer is absolutely yes!

But how fast does it take to get those leads?

I started blogging for Marcus Brown in Portland Oregon in July of this year. This was a brand-new Real Geeks site, which if you don’t know, are an excellent real estate website  option although they are a little on the spending side. I started blogging three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We started off blogging local with neighborhood posts and certain types of properties within those neighborhoods such as ramblers, two-story homes, homes with basements or five bedroom homes, etc.

After we had a good selection of neighborhood posts we started blogging about community and neighborhood events. Because we had a good collection of neighborhood posts, anytime I mentioned the neighborhood, surrounding town or community within a new post I would link back to it. If we were talking about a certain neighborhood I would also do a teaser link in the middle of that post relating back to another post that I had done.

Marcus Brown PropertiesAgain, this is a brand-new domain and a brand-new site which is now just six months old. The first month we got about 100 unique hits; the second month we got about 300 unique hits and now we are up to over 1200 unique hits a month.

One of the best things is that people are staying on the site upwards of 5 to 7 minutes and looking at 3 to 8 pages per visit. This shows Google that our site is important, that people are finding their way around the site and getting more information as they go. Marcus now has about 20 leads per month, most of them are solid leads that are going on to closing.

All we are doing is blogging on-site and then posting those blogs on his Facebook, Google plus, and Twitter pages with a teaser link about the post.

So blogging does work. Keep these steps in mind when blogging:

  • Blog about something relevant and current
  • Get local with neighborhood posts and styles of homes within that neighborhood
  • Be sure to put in past related posts and link to other pages on the site when applicable
  • Promote those blogs on social media sites that you frequent

Here are some of his blogs that we’ve done that have created really great leads and gives you an example of how to layout your blogs:

The fact that visitors are staying 5 to 7 minutes on a brand new site is impressive.  Also, I'd imagine that Portland has pretty strong competition for keywords, so it's great that he's already getting leads!

Thanks this is extremely helpful to the novice blogger!   I used to rank very high in my area and the website is slowly sinking below the big competitors.  Thanks for your great blog.  I am going to spend some time educating myself.
