Ouray, Colorado...There's Fun in The Sun and The Snow

Ouray, Colorado...There's Fun in the Sun and The Snow. Ouray, Colorado is know as the Little Switzerland of America. Once here you will see why. Ouray is located in a box canyon and is surrounded by rugged 12,000 and 13,000 foot peaks. While the town is more popular in the summer, Ouray, Colorado is a year around playground.

Ouray, Colorado...There's Fun in the Sun and The Snow

Ouray, Colorado is gearing up for it's winter season. Ice climbing is the most popular winter activity, and the town hosts two festivals that bring ice climbers in from all over the world. Ouray is home to the world's first ice climing park. Snowmobiling and cross country skiing are also popular. The elevation is over 7,700 feet, and this area gets a lot of snow. The cross country ski trails around the old ghost town of Ironton are easy to get to and offer trails for all abilities. These are some of my favorite cross country ski trails in Colorado because of the mountain scenery and the appeal of skiing around the old ghost town.

Ouray is also famous for it's hot springs. There is no better way to unwind after a day of playing in the snow and ice, then to soak in the natural mineral springs. The hot springs pool is open to the public as are the vapor caves at the Weisbaden Vapor Caves and Hotel.

Ouray, Colorado...There's Fun in the Sun and The Snow

Summertime in Ouray, Colorado has an unlimited amount of things you can do. Ouray is truly an outdoors lovers paradise. Tour the town and the mountains on foot, by jeep or mountain bike. If you feel like taking it easy, find a sunny spot and look up. The scenery is enough to entertain you for quite a while.

Most of the local restaurants are open from January to October with several of them open all year. It's always wise to check in advance if you plan to visit in the winter or spring. Most of the hotels are open year around, and you can check here for more information on the different lodging options.

Once you visit Ouray, you will want to come back again and again. Try visiting in all four of the distinct seasons, because in Ouray, Colorado...There's Fun in The Sun and The Snow.

Debbie, This little snow village looks so quiet and welcoming. I bet it gets very busy when the slopes are open.

Hi, Debbie...one of the nice things about Ouray is that it does NOT have a ski area. The winters are quiet, but there are still enough people around to keep shops and restaurants open. Winter is my favorite time to visit.

Debbie  The wife and I love St. Elmo's Hotel and restaurants.  I'm always good for a new set of Tibetan Prayer flags from the local gift shops.  Love that place and thanks for sharing.

Hi, Scott...thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you liked these pictures. When you visit Colorado, you have to go to Ouray. Take the kids and enjoy the hot springs at the very least. One time, while soaking, I looked at the side of a mountain and watched about four bighorn sheep. It was amazing. I might also suggest O'Briens for lunch. That might be my blog topic for today.

Debbie, Ouray is a beautiful town, and have not been there in years.     Would not be up for the ice climbing, but the hot springs sounds good.   Glad to see the white stuff blanketing the ground!
