Ouray, Colorado...There's Fun in the Sun and The Snow. Ouray, Colorado is know as the Little Switzerland of America. Once here you will see why. Ouray is located in a box canyon and is surrounded by rugged 12,000 and 13,000 foot peaks. While the town is more popular in the summer, Ouray, Colorado is a year around playground.
Ouray, Colorado is gearing up for it's winter season. Ice climbing is the most popular winter activity, and the town hosts two festivals that bring ice climbers in from all over the world. Ouray is home to the world's first ice climing park. Snowmobiling and cross country skiing are also popular. The elevation is over 7,700 feet, and this area gets a lot of snow. The cross country ski trails around the old ghost town of Ironton are easy to get to and offer trails for all abilities. These are some of my favorite cross country ski trails in Colorado because of the mountain scenery and the appeal of skiing around the old ghost town.
Ouray is also famous for it's hot springs. There is no better way to unwind after a day of playing in the snow and ice, then to soak in the natural mineral springs. The hot springs pool is open to the public as are the vapor caves at the Weisbaden Vapor Caves and Hotel.
Summertime in Ouray, Colorado has an unlimited amount of things you can do. Ouray is truly an outdoors lovers paradise. Tour the town and the mountains on foot, by jeep or mountain bike. If you feel like taking it easy, find a sunny spot and look up. The scenery is enough to entertain you for quite a while.
