Why Practice Active Listening Skills?

By
Real Estate Sales Representative with Vision Realty Centers

Because it:

  • Improves coaching skill.
  • Provides Effective communication.
  • Helps Focus intently to identify problems
  • Increases Hearing, understanding, interpreting, confirming abilities.  How?

1.      Pay attention to nonverbal messages,

2.      Ask Questions, and

3.      check for understanding

  • Inspires productive performance and solicit suggestions

Above all, Keep an open mind

1.      Accept that the other person's opinion may be different from your own. Avoid the temptation to argue with him, teach him, or correct him at this time.

2.      Allow conversational lulls to take place. Instead of rushing the person, give him time to collect his thoughts, restate his points, or amplify his opinions.

3.      Refrain from forming opinions about what the person will say or what his ideas are. Avoid planning your response while the other person is talking.

I think some of us try to hard to show our clients how much we know, that we actually forget  to listen to clients particular needs.  What one client looks for is not necessarily what another wants.

Very good Post.

You are right on.  This is key when ever we talk to anyone. Are we hearing what they are truly saying?
