Services for Real Estate Pros with RE/MAX Kai Lani

HI!  Having been "MeMe'd" I was first impressed that I should just back out of this "wonderful" opportunity, but thinking more on it, I thought, why not be a good sport and enter five things about myself in a blog as requested.   So, here goes.

My wife of fifty-one years and I live in Kailua Hawaii.

Sam and Jer at Folsom Temple

I have had the most exciting and wonderful life anyone could ask for.  I have three grown and successful children and eight grandchildren.  Here are some of the Gang at Thanksgiving following a 5K run.    Thanksgiving Leslie  I was a career Army Officer for 26 years two of which were spent in sunny Viet Nam.   This is where I found out what I liked about my self, but mostly what I didn't like.  This was really important because when I met myself so intimately, I had to change those things I didn't like.   I am now a better person because of some tough experiences there.

I spent 12 years following my military carrer in International Sales and Marketing with a Defense Contractor and then a Fortune 500 company.   I have thus seen most all of the world in its various hues and colors.

I am an Advanced Open Water PADI SCUBA diver but I don't take this too seriously any more.  It is just a fun thing.

I love to read and study but I don't get enough time to do this well or to my satisfaction.

Life has been GREAT and I am totally and completely comfortable with the world and all that is in it.   I could not ask for more.  And, oh yes, I am a dedicated and competent Property Manager.  I don't buy and sell real estate, but do property management just because our company needed a property management department and now there are four of us.  I built the departhment from scratch, and with the help of what I learned at NARPM.

I wish you all as wonderful a life as that which I am having.  Still going strong!

Good job, Jerry, but you're supposed to tag three other people to be meme'ed.  And did you send a link to your meme to Lucky?

I'm sure good things flow to you because of your gratitude and appreciation of what you have.

As the mom of a member of the Air Force who's been in Iraq twice, I hope to God he gets to live to your age and have a couple of post-military careers.

Hi Karen!  This is kind of a new turf for me, so I didn't get anything off to Lucky.  Will have to figure that one out.    Good luck with your son with his experience.  The only thing I can say, and it has been said before, "war is hell".

Sean,  Hi Soul Mate!   Diving is great!  I have a close friend who made a career and business out of diving and now he runs several dive boat tours here in Hawaii.    But, like you, I don't do it much any more, just as the spirit move me.   Jerry

Hey Jerry!  My dad retired from the Navy, my ex was AF, my son just got out of the Navy a year and a half ago and well...I've had a full life of military :)  Property Management is a hard job. I work part time in our office and help out with appointments and work orders...  Scuba Diving huh? I haven't even gone in the ocean swimming for a few years. See you soon!

Hi Sally, Ah hoot, I know all about that!   My wife is a Navy "Junior" and she has given me flak about the Army all our life.   My son went thru West Point but got out after the first Desert Storm experience.   Both my daughters married Air Force kids, so we have GI issue written on the whole family.   See you tonight!  Jerry

Wow, Jerry...what an incredible life you've led!  I received my PADI certification years ago, but unfortunately never made it to the warm waters of Hawaii. And since I'm in Maine now, diving has taken a back seat. The water is never warm here!   Thanks for sharing your story! Oh, and any tips for someone in the process of adding property management to their list of services? You seem to be the pro!

Hi Barbara,  I have had an incredible life!   Wouldn't change any part of it.    And still trucking at hypersonic speed for an old guy.    And, by the way, it's never too late to dive the warm waters of Hawaii.  Let me know your flight number and I will meet you at the airport with leis and set you up with Bryan for a great dive.   As for the property manager business, if you are going to get started from scratch, find a NARPM member to hire as the nucleus for your PM department.   Then make sure that every one of your property managers becomes an ACTIVE member of NARPM.  There is a NARPM blog on my site.   I will do another for you guys!   Jerry

Barbara, Just in case you are still watching, I just put an article I wrote for the NARPM "Residential Resource" Magazine in my blog site.   You may want to open the NARPM web page for more information.  It is at http://www.narpm.org.

Hi Jerry!  Thanks for the invite...Hawaii sounds pretty good right now!  lol  You set me up with Bryan and I'll hook you up with Maine lobster.  Sounds like a fair trade! lol

I am still watching!  I am going to be the nucleus at this point...I have to become the great NARPM guy! Or gal, in this case.  I will check out your NARPM blog and the article to see what I can soak up!  Thanks a million for your advice!

Hi Barbara!   Ahhhh, Maine Lobster with drawn butter.  Now, what can be better than that?   Deal.

I have to tell you I love Maine and the rocky and wind bashed shoreline!   It tickles something really basic inside me.   Beautiful country you live in, but those winters . . . . . BRRRRRR!

Be sure you check out the NARPM web page.  http://www.narpm.org  If you are going to be supervising property management in any way, you should join and take the classes.  They are truly great.  I got into property management from the ground up, and when we got a NARPM chapter in Hawaii, I thought I had somehow slipped into the back door of heaven.  All of the information I had "invented" was there for the picking.   Wonderfully great organization.   Jerry

Yes...it is cold in the winter!  But the winter has a beauty all it's own, and the fun doesn't stop when the temperature drops!  I just switch from hiking to sledding...and tuna fishing to ice fishing...and dock parties to community bean suppers.  lol

I will definitely check out the NARPM page...I looked at briefly and can tell it will be a HUGE help!  Thanks again!

Winter is indeed beautiful!   Like I said, I left a little bit of my heart in New England.   One of my stints was the Naval War College in Newport.   We really loved the time we spent there.   Jerry

Some of the best years of my life were spent in the Navy - two tours with the Navy Band at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  Ah yes, I remember it well.  ...Now it's good to be retired!  I learned to dive too, just enough to get my feet wet!  Used to go night diving with spear guns and underwater flashlights off of Guam.  Shaka brah! and Mahalo for da kine meme blog.

Hi, Jerry - I'm glad you didn't pass on the MeMe.  They are frivolous, but it's always nice to get to know our fellow 'Rainers a little better. It sounds like you've had... and are having a great life. Great picture of you and your wife, btw.

Hi Jon,  Life is that way!  Or, so it seems!  Those years in the rear view mirror are beautiful, but the best years have to be here and now, otherwise, one misses the splendor of the moment.

Night diving is really special!   I dived Guam and it was wonderful!  Diving the Philippines from a "banca" with the full moon low in the sky and face on --  you tripped my memory button.   Jerry

Thanks Jesse and Kathy!   First off congrat's on that Banner Ad you are running!   Really is interesting to track.  And a real thanks for inviting me to MEME!   I was pretty shy about doing it, but seems as though my short note was helpful in getting to know many on the AR circuit whom I hadn't previously known.   Jerry
