A Crazy Wisconsin Idea--Mini-Golf for the New Year--Frostbite Open

By
Real Estate Agent with The Kellstrom Ray Agency, Inc. (Est. 1948)

A crazy, great Wisconsin idea--the Frostbite Open at The Red Putter in Ephraim on New Years Day (no matter what the weather)!  If you haven't visited The Red Putter Miniature Golf Course in Door County, you're missing out on a classic miniature golf course that has been in business for decades.  It's great family fun, and offers 18 holes to put around or through, including a Door County lighthouse, a classic Wisconsin farm.

No matter what the temperature, the Third Annual Frostbite Open will be held on New Years Day and a new champion may be crowned.  This event is conveniently held after Jacksonport Polar Bear Plunge (more to follow on that event soon).  Registration and practice will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., and play begins at 2 p.m.  For an entry fee of $25.00, you will play two rounds of challenging and chilly golf, and hot drinks and chili will be served.

Prizes?  Of course!!  In addition to the honor of becoming the Frostbite Open champ, prices range from $700.00 to $100.00 for 1st through 3rd place, with a best single game prize of $100.00.  Tropies for all who participate, too.  This is a wonderful, family friendly event for all ages.

MaryKay... when I read the headline on the blogroll, it sounded like fun.  Now I clicked and got to your post, and see that this is OUTDOORS.  Yikes.  Ummm... errr.... what are you... nutz?  LOL.

How about if I build a roaring fire right in the middle of the place, and then watch you golf as you make your way from frozen hole to frozen hole.  I mean, I grew up in Cleveland, and I am used to snow... but yikes!  (LOL x 2)

I have some friends that live in Wisconsin and I won't disagree that you all are a little "whacked".

This is crazy and goofy, but I like it.  What a great tradition.  I particularly love the name-- Frostbite Open.  Very clever.

MaryKay - Some how I'm guessing that this would be a lot colder than anything we have here in Southern California.

MaryKay, Except for being numb and risking having my hands freeze to the golf club this sounds like a lot of fun!  I assume there's plenty of hot chocolate available?

Yes, it's cold, and sometimes it's really cold, but this goes on right after our Polar Bear Plunge into Lake Michigan, so I don't know which event gets more talk (or crazies!).  The Red Putter is FUN any time of the year, but kudos to our local businesses that shut down and then reopen to keep locals and visitors entertained.  Yes, ONLY in Wisconsin.  Hope you can all visit this area soon!  It's pretty year-round.
