Wild, Rustic and Purely Relaxing...Penny Hot Springs, Redstone, Colorado. If you are looking for a spa treatment, these hot springs aren't for you. The Penny Hot Springs don't have any amenities except for parking, but the experience is wild, rustic and purely relaxing. It's also FREE. The minerals in the hot water are said to have therapeutic value which is good for whatever ails you, and at the very least, the mineral water is relaxing and refreshing.

Wild, Rustic and Purely Relaxing...Penny Hot Springs, Redstone, ColoradoThese wild, untamed springs come right out of the ground and flow into the Crystal River at temperatures to hot to handle. The locals build pools every year out of the rock. The design mixes the cold Crystal River water with the hot spring water to create temperatures more suitable for human enjoyment.  The springs are open all year, except for maybe in the late spring when the snow melt runoff is too high.

I've been a visitor to these hot springs for over 20 years. I started visiting when the clothing optional style of bathing was more popular, and most people didn't even know about the Penny Hot Springs. My husband loves to talk about sitting in the hot springs and casting his fly rod out into the river and catching trout. This is a true story. I saw it happen. Look across the river, and you might see a herd of bighorn sheep. This herd is a frequent visitor to the area. You can get more information on the Penny Hot Springs here.

Wild, Rustic and Purely Relaxing...Penny Hot Springs, Redstone, Colorado. Even if you don't want to soak, the springs are a unique, natural feature of the area, and worth the stop along the road.

I have never seen the hot springs anywhere.  Quite a natural phenomenon.

Natural Hot Springs are Mother Natures gift to people.  That looks incredible.  I enjoyed the hot springs in Costa Rica from the Volcanic Underground of the Arenal Volcano.  But to do it with snow covered rocks looks waaay better.

Hi, John...the link in the blog will tell you how to get there, but so can anyone in Redstone. The hot springs are about 1.5 to 2 miles north of Redstone on the highway to Carbondale.

Hi, Joan...I think we are heading to the developed Glenwood Springs later today. I just finished giving my credit card a workout at the shops in Glenwood.

Hi, Mary...I love hearing you say that. I truly love Colorado and all it has to offer.

Hi, Bill...we use to search them out. I love soaking in them...even more than my own hot tub.

Hi, Glenn...those Costa Rican hot springs sound pretty neat.

Hi, Barbara Jo...Merry Christmas to you and your family, also.

Hi, Scott...I just finished a soaking session in the Yampa Vapor Cave. What an experience. Almost as good as hot springs, but not quite the same. .

Yampa Vapor Cave is one of my favorite...still got the t-shirt.  Fun town that Glenwood Springs.  I could do the cave twice a week.

Hi, Roy...the mineral springs are good for aches and pains and I've developed quite a few of those.

Hi, John...we really enjoyed the cave today. I almost bought a t shirt, but I held back.
