How may times have you gotten this call?

Would you like to be listed in our directory? We are currently receiving x amount of hits (traffic) per month. I have had this sales pitch time and time again. When I'm told how much traffic they are receiving, I'm always skeptical, usually I have to ask how much traffic their site is receiving. What good is it to get listed and pay a fee to never be seen? Most of these so-called directories have little or no traffic. They want you to make a year comment and pocket your money.

I always ask how do they advertise, where is the traffic coming from. What good is it if the traffic is coming from Russia? How long have they been on the net? If it sounds too good to be true it is. After they give me some over inflated numbers, I go and check them out on Alexa, this is a web site that tracks web traffic among other things. By doing a quick search, I can see if this will be money well spent or dead Money.

What's the saying a fool and his money will soon part?

MLS Maps, Agentopolis, Tweet Me Homes - Minneapolis, MN

Check out Agentopolis at www.agentopolis.com.  The site was launched in late November in beta and is tracking to hit 100,000 page views in the first full month of tracking.  The best part is the agents REALLY get a free listing that includes their photo, a bio that can include testimonials, education, awards, certifications, etc.  The agent can also select from a number of different search criteria to show up on like, "male agent" or "female agent", spanish speaking, first time homebuyer specialist and more.

As of 4 days ago Agentopolis started ranking agents in each city and state in desending order by "number of client recommendations" so with only 1 recommendation most agents can be listed first in their city or state for free before another agent comes along with 2 rcommendations.

Agentopolis is about open access for both the consumer and the agent.  The site rank on alexa kinda sucks right now but keep an eye on the "movers and shakers" chart, I think you'll see Agentopolis coming up fast.

Same as any other industry.  Shysters on every corner.

Ask them to buy a house.
