I have a client that is selling his home. I am negoitiating the short sale. The himne comes with a Christmas tree farm. The client became a quick study in the Christmas tree business. I was surprised by two things. First, the demand for live Christmas trees is increasing. I would have thought that artificial trees were far more popular. I am guilty of this because after all, you cannot buy a pre-strung live tree and I insist upon prestrung lights on a tree at this point (that is until one of the lines goes out and ruins everything)!!
Thge second thing is that 98% of live trees are raised on a Christmas tree farm. This is encouraging for the environment. I have read many objections to live trees that centers on removal of viable trees for a very temporary benefit. It seems tat this objection is not valid. Not only that, but many of the live trees are delievered "balled in burlap". This means that they can be replanted.
A live, balled in burlap tree from my youth is flourishing in a park near my original home. I see it every year and it is HUGE now.
I think that I have talked myself into a live tree next year. Ya just cant beat the smell of pine during Christmas and New Years. Happy New Year to everyone!!
