One of my New Year's Resolution is to stay healthy..... I am smart enough to  know that in order to do that, one must  eat right and exercise 3-4 times a week.

Its been  30 days since I have made this resolutionand although I cheat and eat many foods not on the so called healthy list, ie chocolate,  I am very serious about my exercise routine, As part of my weekly exercise routine, I attend a Pilates class twice a week  conducted by Dr Adam Weiss in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.

I have tried almost all types of exercise in the last 20 years,but after only 4 months of Pilates Reformer training, I truly have found this type of exercise the most beneficial for me.   Pilates Reformer is strength training on the Stott Reformer machine.  The Stott Reformer is modeled after the "reformer" used for rehab that uses resistance and assistance at the same time.




What Are The Benefits?

  • Increased core strength(middle abdominals, obliques, back and all the muscles that support the spine).- Over the last 4 months, many people have noticed my improved posture.
  • Sculpted legs, thighs, and arms and flat abs.  Lean muscle around the shoulders.  I was just kidding in the title,  not exactly flat abs- maybe  flatter abs.
  • Stress reduction- my husband and kids say that I scream less around the home. 
  •  Hopefully, a better game of golf in the summer

Katie,  If you want to do this type of Pilates, you google your city and then pilates reformer.  Many healthclubs have this type of exercise.

Judy,  Great information.  I will also be looking into the Pilates Reformer Training prgram  Thanks for providing your assessment and details about the program.  A news report this morning said that Scientists studying cells found that people who exercise regularly have "younger" cells, and discussed the anatomy of the changes.  I think we know this intuitively by the way we feel.  Thanks again.

Judy, your timing is fantastic! I have been exploring and deciding what types of excercise to jump into. Had a kidney out a few years ago, and definitely need to start from square 1 and work on my abs. It helps so much when someone else is passionate about something and so kindly passes it on. Judy, as you may know from my MeMe post I have this Fitness Nut side of me. Let me tell you the best way to have flat abs BESIDES equipment. Watch your eating habits. Get rid of the three whites as much as possible, white flour products, sugar, and salt. Especially the processed carbs and sugary drinks and sugar desserts. You will be amazed how your body will change. Drink water not diet sodas. The machine will help the muscles but fat has to be gotten rid of by what you eat and aerobic exercise. Good luck with your high school reunion. You already look great to me. I think you are just a high achiever and pushing that excellence envelope.

Also, VIGOROUS exercise is a great stress reducer.

Hi Judy, I got here from your 'no brainer' AR post. I have to tell you that I absolutely love Pilates!  I go to a class at the Chelsea, MI Health & Wellness center 2x a week. Pilates has been found to stregthen the muscles & posture needed for good horseback riding. I ride Dressage- you know, horsey ballet & it's great to have a competitive edge.
