I have been thinking about my New Year's resolutions. Luckily, one of the best books I read this year was The Willpower Instinct, by health psychologist Kelly McGonigal, Ph.D. She created a course called "The Science of Willpower" for Stanford University's Continuing Studies Program. The course was a huge hit and turned into a Psychology Today blog with the same name. I will be re-reading it next week. If you want to achieve your New Year's resolutions, you may want to check out this fascinating book.
One thing I learned this year was that willpower gets used up as the day goes on. You have to refuel your brain before you can continue working, thinking, or making decisions.
And my resolution for 2013? Work smarter; and free up more time to play, exercise, travel, and socialize. I will be putting systems in place to accomplish that goal, with the help of Dr. McGonigal's book.
