Take A Hike On New Year's Day
Instead of spending the day lying on the coach, a great way to start out 2013 is to go out and take a hike on New Year's Day. I am an avid hiker and enjoy starting out the new year at my favorite local hiking spot, Daley Ranch in Escondido. And I am not alone, there are always lots of mountain bikers and families out hiking on New Year's morning.
Last year, in an effort to get people across the country out of the house and into their state parks on New Year's Day, an organization called America's State Parks started First Day Hikes. This year there are more than 600 hikes planned in all 50 states. Other organizations such as the Sierra Club also have hikes and events planned across the country.
If your New Year's Resolution includes losing weight, getting healthy, or spending more time with your family, this is a perfect way to start. If you don't have any state parks or organized hikes near-by, just bundle up the family and get to a forest, mountain, desert, beach or trail near you and enjoy the beauty of nature on the first day of the New Year.
