A newly formed company by the name of Brightenview Development International has acquired a quarter section of land near Dundurn, Saskatchewan, twenty minutes outside of Saskatoon. They are proposing to build a first of its kind for North America wholesale mall, which would make it the largest mall in North America and one of the top 10 largest malls in the world. According to the company, the 6.4 million square foot complex would house 350 stores and create 1000 new jobs.
The concept of the mall is that Chinese companies will have displays for regular customers to shop at as well as for major corporations to do wholesale buying. It is a concept that has shown to be successful in China but would be the first of its kind in North America.
Many people are skeptical as to why they would choose a 700 person community to build this major complex and as to the feasibility of the project from a business perspective. I guess we'll see what transpires in the coming months with the project and if it ever gets any traction.
