Happy New Year!
How To Make Giant Snowflakes Like A 9 Year Old Martha Stewart!
We have a special guest instructor today, our 9 year old niece Skylar! She's been making giant paper snowflakes to decorate for Christmas and we asked her to share her crafty secrets and she graciously agreed! You too can be adding giant snowflakes to your home in no time!
So what to do you need? Five sheets of pager, scissors and an Elmer's Glue Stick. Skylar was quite specific, liquid glue does NOT work!!
So here we go!
You'll need five sheets of paper to build each section.Take first sheet and fold one corner until flush with other edge as in 2nd photo.
Now fold long corner edge to opposite corner like 3rd photo.
Trim off bottom edge.
You've now got a large triangle.Place the folded edge AWAY from you and cut parallel to the long edge. Stop about 1" from the fold. Repeat parallel cuts working to the short side. Space cuts approx. 1/2 to 3/4" apart. The more cuts, the more ribbons in your snowflake.
When done, start opening up the square of paper.
Now here's where it may get a bit complicated! You've fully opened the square, now take two inside corners and bend to center. Use your glue stick to put on the inside of one corner, then press on top of the opposite corner and hold for a couple of seconds. You'll now have a small cylinder formed.Flip the square over and take the next corners and bend to center, and again glue together. Keep flipping and repeating the bend and glue steps until you've formed all the corners into cylinders.
When you've finished, you've got your first section of the snowflake like Sklyar is showing us!Repeat the above instructions four more times!
Now take snowflake section 1 and put some glue in bottom corner and press bottom corner of snowflake section 2 to section 1. Hold together as in photo 3. Repeat the same step in the middle of section 1 & 2 and hold together.
Now attach sections 3, 4 & 5 the same way to complete a giant snowflake just like the top picture!
To hang, just put a small hole through one of the points and slip fishing line or string through to make a loop to hang from the ceiling!
We hope you enjoy Skylar's snowflake tutorial, and she says Merry Christmas to all of you!
