Yes It Does Get Cold In Tampa Florida

I Live in Florida and even the 60, 50 and 40 degree temperatures are cold to me. And January is one of the coldest months of the year in Florida.

One of the things we need to make sure we do is maintain our Heating & Cooling Systems. This should be done throughout the year. The weather in Florida changes sometime like we change our clothes. Last January, the temperatures dropped down to almost freezing a few times. The last thing you want is the heat to go out when the temp drops down to 40 degrees. Of course, this also applies for the warmer months. When its hot, its HOT. It always seems they go out on the hottest days. Proper maintenance can help prevent this from happening as often. Here's a few simple steps to keep your Heating & Cooling System operating at peak condition.

* Always make sure to change the filters, usually monthly. Some filters are designed to last longer depending on which ones you purchase. Also, make sure to clean permanent ones. Maintaining filters will save money on your electric bill and save your system from having to work so hard.

* Always keep debris away from your outdoor unit. Make sure unit is free from branches, vegetation, etc. This will also cause it to works harder and break down if debris gets into the coils.

*You should always have a yearly Maintenance Inspection from a Qualified Licensed Heating & Cooling Specialist.cold

I personally use (and know others that have used them also)  Lloyd's Heating & Cooling. I have called them many times and have recieved prompt and courteous service each time and they've done an excellent done for a great price.

They have a troubleshooting area on their website which includes various things you can check if your having a problems with your heating & cooling unit. A few of those includes checking the circuit breakers to the unit(s) and see if they need to be reset and to also see if you have a emergency cut off switch to also reset. They also recommend the above maintenance tips when troubleshooting. You may also have a clogged drain line and they have tips to troubleshoot this.

As with anything, it is recommended to call a licensed professional. They will help you keep your Heating & Cooling System in top operating condition all year round to keep your home comfortable and save you money.

Sherry, I live on the east coast of Florida so can really relate to this post. And it reminded me that we have not had our annual maintenance inspection yet...need to get that done. Great tips for everyone, no matter what state they live in.

Sherry, when we moved to Cocoa Beach 25+ years ago, temps in the 50's and 60's were what we called spring where we used to live. The northeast wind here on the beach is what really makes us cold...but the past few days have been summer like here.

Sherry, great post and thanks for the reminder... I am a native Floridian however I lived in Tennessee for a while and it used to be too cold to snow there... Ouch!!! I will admit though I miss the change of seasons in the North...

Nibal- You are so right, It had been pretty cold for a while, thankfully its been nice again lately. Happy New Year to You also!

Diana- Exactly, I have friends in NY and Michigan and the 50's and 60's feel really nice to them, but to me its just a little too chilly.

Cara- I grew up a lot in TN and it snowed there a lot. I was used to it then and was no big deal, but since moving here I just can't take the cold anymore. I think the change of seasons is really pretty, but I can't say that I really miss it.
