The Pursuit of Happiness

As I got back into my routine of packing lunches and dropping the boys off to school I was reminded that on January 2nd, most people are focused on waking up and beginning their New Year's resolutions - whether it's to lose weight, pursue a new career or find happiness - the latter being on my mind this morning. So I breathed in the cool, crisp North Jersey air, tossed a smile on my face and put a little thought into what would bring me and my family "happiness" this coming year. But for me, looking ahead can bring on some serious anxiety - so let's take this one day at time. What do I have today? A quiet house with boys off to school, a really good cup of coffee and a work day of catching up and organizing. For if I plan ahead for happiness, am I waiting for it to come? What can I do today to bring a smile to my neighbor's face, to make positive thought contagious? Happiness can't be the end result and it shouldn't be hard work - or something we have to strive for. It's availble to us every day. We just have to know where to find it and honestly, I don't think we have to look too far. Happy 2013!

Happy 2013 to you as well! I LOVE the start of the New Year, just as I loved going back to school after the summer break.
