Fun Things to do in Crofton

Crofton Library is arguably the heart of the community.  In fact, it serves as the community center we don't yet have, but that's a topic for another day. Several activities are coming up at the library in January including the following...

January 8, 7 p.m. - PJ Story Time (Ages 2-5)

According to the library website, you will "cuddle up in your coziest pajamas" as library staff shares wintry stories, songs and rhymes with children aged two to five. Parents and caregivers must accompany two and three year-olds, while children four years and older may attend alone, providing an adult remains in the branch."

January 8, 3:30 p.m. - Anime/Manga Club (Teens)

Share in the love of Japanese comics and animation! For long time fans and those who are just curious. Just drop in.

January 15, 7 p.m. - Book Buddies Reading Club (Grades 3-5)

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl:  Young Charlie, a boy from a poor family, wins the opportunity to tour a secretive but magnificent candy factory with the eccentric owner along with four other children who aren’t quite as well behaved as he is!
For grades three through five

January 17, 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. - Ice Floes and Igloos (Pre-school)

Visit the frozen north for stories, activities, and a craft.

January 19, 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. - Babies in Bloom (Age up to 18 months)

The library invites parents and caregivers to bring their babies (up to 18 months) for a fun-filled half-hour of stories, songs, rhymes and fingerplays that are designed to stimulate early infant development.

January 22, 7 p.m. - Book Club (Adults)

The Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard: “A staggering tale... The author digs deeply into the turmoil that got James A Garfield elected, the lunacy that got him shot and the medical malfeasance that turned a minor wound into a mortal one” –Janet Maslin

January 28, 2 p.m. (School Holiday) - iDestination: Arctic Circle (School-age kids)

Could you live in an igloo? Test yourself in our milk jug igloo while enjoying book-talks, activities, and a craft about the cold north.

By appointment - Basic Computer Training

A librarian will teach you how to access your library account, search the catalog and the Internet, navigate special electronic databases and set up a free email account. Instruction basics in Microsoft Word may also be available. (Training is also available in Spanish.)
Call (410)222-7915 or (301)261-3909 or visit the branch for more information and/or to schedule an appointment.

some of my most fond childhood memories include the library, and I still am an avid reader.  I think these are some great programs.
