July 2011 will be forever etched in my soul. That's when my oldest brother, Edwin, began his journey toward dying. He underwent brain surgery to remove what was thought to be 2 tumors but turned out to be one large potent tumor. His life changed and so did those who loved him.
One year later after dealing with radiation and chemo, he went into hospice at the VA Hospital in Dallas. 5 months later on Dec. 13, 2012 he passed peacefully.....so what's so remarkable and life changing about his death?
He chose to donate his body to research! His death means others will benefit from the LAST unselfish act he could do, helping medical students learn their craft on his body.
Edwin ask about my real estate career even when he could barely remember who was visiting him. His stay at the VA hospital and hospice allowed me to give a smile to those men and women who served their country each time I saw them when I visited.
Tears flow when I less expect it but my love for family has deepened. I'm grateful for the time I had with my brother. I'm grateful for the unselfish act he did. I'm grateful that I've had a life changing moment.
