If you purchased your home last year it’s time to file for your homestead tax exemption. To be granted a homestead exemption you must occupy the home as your primary legal residence.
The application for homestead exemption must be filed with your local tax commissioners office or the tax assessors office and the deadline for filing the tax exemption is April 1 in most counties. If you miss this deadline you will not be able to file again until next year and you will miss your on your right to get this exemption.
