It's gone. Sears Roebuck Searcy AR house is gone. Lightle house?

I drove by and the wrecker was there.

The bright light on the right seems to indicate a new dawning for the lot but for the house not!

Sears Roebuck Searcy AR house gone

Today I read in the newspaper that it is gone, torn down, an empty lot.  It really was in bad shape and probably couldn't be saved.  I did a blog on it once.

Sears Roebuck Houses in Searcy AR.

Our historical oracle, Dorothy Warden, called it the Lightle family house in her Local Views column.  She said she had promised to sit on the doorstep and protest the tear down but they slipped past her.  Sneaky people!  It was located on Elm Street between Center and Arch.  Here's the Googlemaps view.

Lightle house

It really was in bad shape but the memories of it will be good.

So what was the history on the home? I am curious.  Sad that change occurred but with that comes perhaps someone else's new beginning

Barbara, are you sure that bright light isn't you finger on the edge of the camera lens?

I think I see fingerprint whorls. =-))

See this blog.  This house was the Lightle house.

Eric, there is absolutely no telling what all has happened in this house!

Elite  Home Sales, thanks for stopping by.

Stan, for some reason I have been unable to pull up the court house history on this house.

Don, I really think there was a little subliminal help here.  It wasn't my finger.  LOL  I think there must be several Lightle houses in Searcy.  Maybe we can get this one figured out.  I have not been able to pull it up on courthouse records.

Barbara,

There are a number of Sears houses around here. I inspected one the other day that had been added onto and the work was not so good.

That's so sad...but we just can't save them all...at least you have lots of information and pictures...I guess the Myan's did understand that all things come to an end...eventually.  Farewell!

Steve, the insides of the Sears houses are not nearly as classy as the outside appears.  Perhaps do-it-yourselfers finished them off?

Debbie, this one had really reached the end.  We'll see what happens there now.

I guess Dorothy and I will have to let the bulldozers have this one, as we will take your word that it really isn't salvagable.  I can't get my brain around WHERE it is.  I was thinking of a similiar one on Race Street, across from what was many years ago Hoofman's florist.

Don, that's a great view.  She will now know exactly where it is.  You are much better than I when it comes to doing these google views.  Thanks.

Sorry to be so dense, I still can't put that house on Elm.  I'm going to Searcy tomorrow (dentist) and will definitely go by where it WAS......

Thanks for all the help.  The light is actually dawning a little bit. I'm trying hard.  Is Dorothy's old home on that street, too?

Drive by, Anita.  Dorothy's old home is not on that street.

I did drive by today.  There was a protest of the bulldozer in today's newspaper, The Daily Citizen.

Charles Braswell: City recklessly demolished historic house

Walking to the Literacy Council of White County office one day last week, I noticed the old house formerly used by K-Life Ministries had been demolished.

Anita, I saw the letter from Mr. Braswell.

Don, I cannot get this house to pull up in county records.  Looks as if Miss Lucy Lightle lived there.  There were lots of Lightles!  I wanted to know the age of the house but it just isn't available on public records.  Oh, well, it's gone now.

Gone but not forgotten.   Do we know what will be built on it's former site?   Another much needed bank?  Dollar General?  Fast food restaurant???  Lawyers office??

Anita, we are preserving these houses on these blogs, we hope.  Today's paper showed another old house that caught fire and will probably not be saved.  It is at the corner of N Spring and Moore.  It was at some time very prestigious, I imagine.

Don, I still have not been able to pull up the county data on the house.  Perhaps when they had K-life meeting there it was a secret location and not available for the public to pull records.  You have done great research though.  Thanks!
