People move to Durango for many reasons in addition to the natural beauty and climate that we offer here. Our college makes numerous contributions to our society and certainly raises the overall living experience. Durango is not a large town (15,000 people in the city limits and about 50,000 total for the whole county) but one gem of an asset that it has, is Fort Lewis College. With a student count of a little under 4,000 students and a fully accredited four-year college, we are blessed with the numerous offerings and attractions provided by this college. Let me share one of them with you.
The Life-Long Learning Series is co-sponsored by the Office of the President and the Professional Associates of Fort Lewis College. The winter/spring schedule includes 10 different presentations beginning January 24 and running through April 4. Some of the topics include: advanced directives and medical orders; fire management at Mesa Verde National Park (the only World Heritage Park in the United States); 130 years of civilizing Durango; traveling across Pakistan and others. All of these presentations are in Noble Hall on the campus and there is no admission cost.

Fort Lewis has a beautiful concert hall that seats about 800 people and is a much used venue for everything from the Chinese Acrobats or the Santa Fe ballet presenting the Nutcracker every December. The company that I work with, the Wells Group Real Estate Brokerage, leases the building for our annual Wells Group Real Estate Forecast which is a detailed presentation of where we’ve been and where we think the real estate markets are headed in 2013.
