It’s a new year and with that come a fresh set of goals. If you’re like me, one of your New Year’s resolutions is probably to be more active on your social networking sites.
It has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that social media is effective. As real estate virtual assistants, we have to be S.M.A.R.T in how we approach our clients’ social networking initiatives. Yes, I’m throwing an acronym at you. Trust me, if you can keep S.M.A.R.T in mind, you’ll have a successful social media presence sooner than you think. It’s all about getting people to recognize your brand, whether they’re online or driving past one of your signs on the street.
“S” is for “Sincere.” Honesty is always the best policy. Don’t put on a front. Show your personality. People are far more responsive to a presence that they perceive as real and genuine. Nobody likes an online advertisement or advertorial. Be yourself.
“M” is for “Meaningful.” Post content that is in-line with your goals, values and priorities as an agent. This includes content that is in-line with the values of your community. This isn’t to say that you have to make everything about buying or selling houses because that’s what you do. What I am saying is that what you post should matter to your community and have their best interests at heart.
“A” is for “Adaptable.” One of the more annoying things about social media is that it is always changing. There’s constantly a new site popping up, new formats, and new applications to use. It’s a blessing and a curse, because it seems like it’s a struggle to keep up, but you know that all of these new sites can really be beneficial. Make your presence adaptable. Jump on new trends early and test them out. Don’t rely too heavily on one technique, because who knows when that will stop being available to you? Having a well-rounded presence is key.
“R” is for “Relevant.” Make an effort to have your content be relevant to your fans. The more valuable your presence is to them, the more they will engage with you. The key to relevance is adding a personal touch. You can still be formal and businesslike if that is your personality, but the only way any consumer is going to view your content as relevant is if it has a personalized feel. If they don’t feel affected by what you have to say, then they’re not going to engage.
“T” is for “Timely.” When people reach out to you on a social network, they expect a response. Getting back to someone days or weeks after a question is asked or a message sent is unacceptable in today’s world. Stay engaged and be responsive. The quicker you can get back to someone, the more they will use your page as a resource.
Well, there you have it: if you stay S.M.A.R.T in your approach to your social media efforts, you will most likely see an improvement in your engagement. With 2013 well underway, now is the perfect time to take a fresh approach to your social media efforts. If you need help, simply contact your real estate virtual assistants.
