A few days ago, the Edmond Sun had an article on the growth of the schools in Edmond. It really is amazing how large our great school system is and how well it scored!!

Just in October 1, 2012, the total student population of Edmond Schools was 22,501 students – 505 more than last year.

Most of the growth was in the NW part of Edmond and that area currently has one elementary under construction, with an elementary and middle school in the planning stages and ground being broke for a high school within the next 5 to 6 years. Quite an expansion.

deer_creekDeer Creek Public School had a total of 5,618 students breaking down to 1,990 elementary students to the 4th grade, 746 in 5th and 6th grades, 720 students in 7th and 8th grades in the DC Middle School, and 1,162 in the Deer Creek High school. The New Intermediate School for 5th and 6th graders just opened this year, and Spring Elementary will be opening next Fall.

Much more building will be completed over the next few years.

As great as all this new construction is, one cannot lose site of the School Report Cards! According to the Sun, “In Edmond Public Schools, three elementary schools, two middle schools and all three high schools earned A’s. The rest with the exception of one elementary school earned a grade of B. Ida Freeman Elementary received the district’s only grade of C.”

The Oklahoma State School Board report cards gave 1 percent of schools F, 8 percent D, 34 percent C, 48 percent B and 9 percent A.

Not only did the Edmond Schools receive high marks on the State’s report cards, but Deer Creek districts is also recognized for top scores.

“Oklahoma’s 127 High-Performing Reward Schools include 21 schools in Deer Creek and Edmond school districts.

Reward Schools are those in the top 10 percent of performance in all assessments from three years’ worth of data ending in 2010-11, or those in the top 10 percent of schools that have made high progress in reading and math.

The designation was granted as a result of Oklahoma’s flexibility request from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act under No Child Left Behind from the U.S. Department of Education.”
