How do Real Estate agents feel good about taking keys from a property so no one else can show it and then they can put in an offer and why do the listing agents take the offer when they know that agent took the key? I tried to show a condo twice this past weekend and the keys were not in the lockbox and guess what an offer was presented and accepted. The listing agent knew I was trying to show the condo and I was waiting for him to get the keys back in the lock box. What would you do as the listing agent if the keys were missing and then an offer can in?

Suzanne, this doesn't happen very often, but when it does... it really ticks you off. I would be SO angry.
The agents who STEAL the keys think they're being so very clever. Sooner or later, hopefully the same thing will happen to them.

I personally would make the agent put the keys back. If the offer works I would put a CBS code on the box. If it doesn't work at a minimum I would call their Broker. That is annoying.

Suzanne, I have experienced the lost key issue as a Buyer's agent and it is frustrating to say the least.

Suzanne- unfortunately money often wins out with some people, even over ethics and doing what's right.
