How the rain affects me

By

I live in Round Rock, TX which butts up to Austin, our state capital.  We (Central Texas) have been experiencing a drought for several years.  We were dry, dry, dry. Our lakes are around 38% full and dropping. The beautiful green trees have been on the brown side for too long. But for the second day with more in the forecast, we are experiencing rain and lots of it. My house personally has gotten over 3 inches. I am very happy about the wetness.

But the real reason I write this is ultimately not about the rain, but the effect it has on me. I want to stay home, preferably in the bed with the cat, curled up nice and warm.  I also want to eat, that's right EAT. Anything comfort food - so here are some of the foods I'm thinking I will cook or want.  Cheddar cheese beer soup, chili which will eventually work itself over to frito pie with cheese and sour cream, velveeta homemade Mac and cheese which includes some cream cheese and tony cashere (which for those that don't know) that is Cajun seasoning. Meat loaf or chicken fried steak or anything with mashed potatoes and gravy. Ok I guess I need to include chicken pot pie and maybe a big ole pot of spaghetti.

Ok now that I have re-read this post, I can see I probably need to stay in bed and out of the kitchen. I am now starving and really don't have any of the materials or ingredients to make anything. So, unless I want to go to the store (see staying at home) I won't be eating what I really want. But if anybody wants the recipes for anything I have mentioned let me know. Come on rain!!

Hi Suzanne ~ Glad to hear that you finally got some rain after a long drought. I live in the rainy climate of Portland, OR and I can relate to your cravings!  Today it's not raining much but it's COLD and I just wanted to stay inside all day, wrapped in a warm blanket reading or watching TV ... comfort foods are good for times like these!!

Hi, Suzanne

I spent about 6 months in Texas some years ago (San Antonio and Wichita Falls).  I do not recall,  "Cheddar cheese beer soup".  That sounds good... please tell me about it, or perhaps a Link to a recipe!   Thanks!
