If you’re going to be in the area of Bald Head Island this month there are plenty of Bald Head Island events taking place that you won’t want to miss. Following are just a few. The first Friends of Music Concert will take place this coming Friday, January 11, at 7:30 p.m. in The Village Chapel. Organ Duo David Lang and Neil Weston will perform selections from "The Planets" by Gustav Holst and other organ duets by Jerre Hancock, John Rutter and Samuel Wesley. The Lang/Weston Duo is back for a second year. Best of all, this year there is no charge for Friends of Music Concerts.

On Saturday, January 26, 2013, from 4-6 p.m. the Howl at the Moon event will take place. Presented by the Smith Island Social. Meet at Beach Access #39 to watch the sun set and the moon come up over the ocean. BYOB or purchase a beverage from the Market and bring an appetizer to share if you like.

Also on Saturday, January 26, the Smith Island Social will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Bald Head Island Club. Enjoy passed Hors d’oeuvres, Seafood Display, Action Stations and Desserts! Entertainment by The Carousels. $45 inclusive.

Bald Head Island Conservancy will hold Birding Bald Head Island trips on Monday, Jan. 14, 21, and 28 from 9-11 a.m. Bald Head Island offers fantastic opportunities for birding at all seasons. The island is home to hundreds of egrets, herons and ibis as well as dozens of other species. Trips last about 2 hours and location is dependent on tides, weather and recent sightings. Bug spray is recommended. Bring binoculars if you have them. Meet at the Fleming Environmental Center. Reservations Required. (910) 338-0930 Ferry and golf cart transportation not included.
