"HANDLING REJECTIONS!" ("PUT ON YOUR 'BIG' BOY PANTS!")

INTERESTING CONVERSATION THIS MORNING AT OUR WEEKLY NETWORKING GROUP MEETING IN "GOD'S COUNTRY"/NORTH STAFFORD, VA!  GENERALLY ABOUT 15-20 BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS WITH EXCLUSIVITY BASED ON YOUR BUSINESS!  OF COURSE AS THE REALTOR, WHEN THE SUBJECT OF BASICALLY "HANDLING REJECTIONS" FROM POTENTIAL CLIENTS CAME UP, "EVERYONE" HAD AN OPINION!!!

OK, LONG STORY SHORT, HERE'S A FEW SCENERIOS/COMMENTS...A POTENTIAL CLIENT WANTS YOU TO "DISCOUNT" YOUR SERVICE/FEE BECAUSE THEY WANT A "DEAL!"  SOME COMMENTS INCLUDED, "KICK THEM TO THE CURB", I'M WORTH WHAT I'M ASKING, "TRY AND MEET THEM IN THE MIDDLE", ETC, ETC.

AS I PONDERED HOW I WOULD HANDLE THIS, I THOUGHT...UMMMMH...I'VE BEEN DOING REAL ESTATE FOR 20 YEARS NOW, HAVE A WONDERFUL "REFERRAL" BASED BUSINESS AND MOST OF OUR CLIENTS LOVE AND TRUST US AND I DON'T SEE THEM NEGOTIATING FEES, ETC.  "WHAT A BLESSING!"  SO WHAT I WOULD SAY TO THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY, IT'S EASIER TO "KEEP" A CLIENT FOR LIFE BY, (1) FOLLOWING UP...AND (2) PROVIDE "WORLD CLASS SERVICE" SO THAT YOU ARE AT THE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN WHEN PEOPLE THINK OF YOUR BUSINESS!

IN CLOSING (I SOUND LIKE A PREACHER!)  FOLLOW THE GOLDEN RULE OF TREATING OTHERS AS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED, DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF (AND IT'S ALL SMALL STUFF) AND REMEMBER THIS VERY IMPORTANT THING:  "YOU DON'T NEED EVERYONE TO LIKE YOU OR UTILIZE YOUR SERVICES"!  JUST FIND THOSE WHO, LOVE YOU, ADMIRE YOU AND VALUE YOUR SERVICES.  THERE ARE ENOUGH OF THOSE TYPE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO CAN HELP YOU MAKE A FORTUNE!!!  PUT ON YOUR "BIG BOY PANTS AND KEEP IT MOVING!  MY STORY AND I'M STICKING TO IT!!!

Some good words of advice.  Actually, I don't mind people asking me to discount my fees-- it is almost expected.  I do feel, however, most agents fold like a lawn chair and succumb to it too easily.
