Hi all: I had the opportunity to hear Margo, the owner of Pinkabella Cupcakes, share her success story this morning at a group I belong to called KIROS.
What an amazing story. Margo loved to bake and decided to set up a small in-home business making cupcakes. She had one standard size mixer and hired one employee to help initially. The employee who worked for a larger bakery wondered how they would make it starting so small but Margo was determined. She also didn't want to incur any debt. In fact, Pinkabella Cupcakes to this day is debt free.
Margo went on to share that she got her first location in a mall called Redmond Town Center. She figured she needed to sell 84 cupcakes/day in order to break even. Her first weekend she sold 2,000 and was off to the races!
Through all her story, it became clear that she was perfectly positioned to make this work. Her passion, energy and commitment to quality made her small business successful. Fast forward to today and she has 4 locations (and working on a 5th). Pinkabella does corporate events as well as weddings. She indicated some of the top corporations use her company.
Asked if cupcakes may be the latest fad, Margo said no there will always be a kid with a birthday where cupcakes are ordered. My takeaway is once again here is a woman starting a great business where there is a need. Again, her candor about her business and what she needed to learn beyond just baking was refreshing.
If you are from the Seattle area and haven't tried Pinkabella Cupcakes please do. They have been voted Best Cupcake in Western Washington for the past 2 years. Pinkabella has locations in Bellevue Square, Redmond Town Center, Alderwood Mall and Southcenter Mall. Of course you don't need to be from this area to visit Pinkabella. Just make sure if you order the Cookie Dough that you get there early. They sell out quickly! Thanks for reading. Have a nice weekend!
