Fresh usually means local and a great place to get fresh food is at a Farmer's market. I love the Wigwam Farmer's Market because it takes place in such a beautiful setting. The front lawn of the Wigwam Resort is surrounded by palm trees and seasonal bright flowers.
Arizona is a great place to enjoy all the outdoor markets. Arts and craft festivals and farmer's markets are especially popular because you normally don't have to worry about having good weather. They are great ways to get out and support local farm owners and local artists.
Nearly 30 Valley farmers and artisans participate in this weekly market. Duncan Family Farms and Crow's Dairy are just two of the farms that I've seen selling their products here. At last year's market we even came across a vendor that sharpened knives! If you've ever looked for a place to have your knives sharpened you know it's not easy to find. We brought our knives and were able to wait for them to be sharpened rather than having to drop them off and be without them for a few days. We've also been able to stock up on the Queen Creek Olive Mill products that we love. We were happy to be able to get them in Litchfield Park rather than having to drive all the way out to Queen Creek.
Keep in mind that vendors may change from time to time. That's another thing that keeps people coming back. You never know when you might discover another interesting local product to try. Also, if the area is experiencing some unusual weather it would be best to check with the resort to ensure the market is on. This Sunday, January 13th, for example, had to be cancelled. Because of the unusually cold weather, the farmers didn't have enough product to sell!
