The Colors of Winter

Compared to Texas, the winters in Colorado last a long time.  However, the Denver and Colorado Springs areas get about 300 days of sunshine a year.  When it snows, the snow generally doesn’t last very long.  So, we are left with months of brown yards and gardens.   In preparation for a post that will be coming later this week, I’ve been searching out winter garden ideas.

I noticed that if we take time to look closely, it is colorful in the winter especially in Colorado.

Stay tuned for the winter gardening ideas.

That ample sunshine I think keeps people happy in those climates Sondra despite the cold and compared to heavily cloudy areas. I love the "frost on the pumpkin" category photos you were able to snap. There is much color amidst the brown as you have clearly shown. Even if longer than other areas, wintertime is for a SEASON and then renewal and warmth and growth reoccur. We have to learn to appreciate nature's cycles. I am curious what your winter garden is. I bet it's not watermelons :)

Hi Sondra, Very nice captures. The beauty and color is abundant. I had always envisioned Colorado as being bound in snow in the Winter and I learned that there are some exceptions.

Our Christmas snows are staying around longer than usual, but it's been really cold. This is our coldest time of the year. It should start warming up soon. Your pictures are beautiful. Thanks for sharing them with us.

You asked about my camera.  I use a Canon PowerShot G11 which has now been replaced by newer models.  I recommend a close look at the new Canon cameras.  You do not need to go to the top of the line unless you are in the professional category.  We usually find good prices on Amazon.

I hope you are having a most productive month as home buyers continue to take advantage of the very low mortgage interest rates.
