Landslides
Probably the most costly geologic problem effecting homeowners is landslides. It is quite common for a house to be built close to a cliff overlooking a body of water in order to take advantage of the view. However the weight of the house on unstable soil, particularly after heavy rainfall, can cause ground movement downhill. damaging the foundation or even tearing the house apart.
Gloria: Landslides are really bad news and should be avoided at all costs. All homes should be located on flat places at least fifty yards from any rise or slope. Great post!
