I Have Been Duped

By
Real Estate Agent with Crown Key Realty

To be honest with you, I have never been a big fan of Oprah Winfrey. Nothing against her, she just didn't hold my interest with her show, or any interview that I have seen her do. Now though she has done me a big favor. If what we read is true Oprah has gotten Lance Armstrong to admit he cheated. Not once but through his entire career.

In previous posts I have staunchly defended Lance Armstrong. I won't type his name again. I to was a hardcore bike rider and he made me believe that with hard work you CAN be the best. He lied. He looked me in the eye and lied. I say looked me in the eye and I am referring to all of the time he looked into the camera and lied.

I have held him up as an example to my son, my friends and evoked his name and his story when trying to convince others that hard work will prevail. He lied, over and over again. He bragged that he never failed a drug test. He can now brag that he never told the truth. I am hurt and disappointed that with such a straight face and stern conviction he found it so easy to lie.

I will continue my efforts to raise money for research into eradicating cancer, but to tell you the truth, I will be hard pressed into ever feeling sorry for the liar. And I am telling the truth

Addiction, fame, and power make people do terrible things...think of the energy he had to put out to maintain that lie.

Dale- as have we all.  I've tried to keep an open mind to this but it seems that there is much more to this than just his using drugs to win.

I think everybody suspected it anyway, so I am not all that surprised to hear he was a user! What a chump!

Dale -- heard on the radio this morning, on my way to work, that though he was stripped of his medals for all the Tour de France races, they couldn't give the 2nd place finishers the medals, as they also had been "doping".

Oprah did not get Lance Armstrong to admit to anything.  This was a very well-planned and orchested media event and she was his platform . . . why?  Because all the "oh, it's okay we still love you" people would be in her audience.  The first rule of writing is "know your audience and write to them."  Same is true when it's another form of media . . . know your audidence and play to them, which was the case with this publicity stunt.

Ann, I think it was for the money. Money for him and money for the charity, which of course just made him look good and feel untouchable.

Kathy, I think you are correct, the whole story has still to come out.

Fred, I agree. It 5 more home runs than last yr. and your a suspect. Ride well in the Tour or other events and it is assumed you are a doper.

Steven, it is more like the 50.

William, the Chinese were the worst and still are in my opinion.

Carla, you have hit the nail on the head. One thing though you didn't mention, somehow some way there was money in this for him if he came on the show and confessed. Your words, planned and orchestrated are absolutely correct.

It appears the sport is as much to blame as he is.  They rode his star, covering up for him as he made the sport more well known.  Like my blog says, caveat omnia.

I used to be an avid sports fan when I was younger.  But the sports figures keeping getting more and more disgusting.  Seems that so many of them cheat at their game.  And the ones that don't cheat are certainly not role models.

Jay, the sport shares the blame but the riders or players cheat beyond the ability to test. Cycling has spent a fortune testing and finding new and better methods but they can not keep up with the cheaters.

Rob, I think your words are very true. I have a hard time accepting them, but I know you are absolutely correct.

I heard an interview yesterday, on the ESPN Colin Cowherd show, with a teammate of Armstrong, who said that the cover up went all the way to the top of the sport.  Armstrong was helped in numerous ways, including being told when "random, surprise" tests were to happen.  Can't keep up with the cheaters?  There are more cheaters than not in that sport, according to every interview I hear!

Jay I am afraid you are correct. I do not believe the real story will ever be told and the upper echelon of cycling is looking to cover their own butts.

Don't be so hard on him.

I'm sure he trained for years to become what he became. Yes, he did mistake, he did a lot of mistakes, yet I would not believe that show. i could tolerate only few minutes and switched it off. L.A. was very nervous and seemed he was telling answers that he was supposed to tell( no, it was not honest, just carefully prepared, I agree with Carla). He was caught, but I'm sure, he is not the only one. It is a system, he just probably became 'unwanted' to them.
