I am a admitted chocoholic. Always have been, always will be. My personal choice has always been dark chocolate. Even as a kid I remember I'd take a hunk of dark semi sweet chocolate over milk chocolate any day of the week. Nowawdays, they tell us that a bit of dark chocolate everyday is good for us. Something about antioxidants. I don't know about that. I just eat because a bite of a really good, rich, dark chocolate and it's practically a religious experience. This past Christmas my son gave me a bar of dark chocolaty goodness that had lemon and black pepper in it. Yes, you read that right. Dark chocolate infused with lemon essence and black pepper. I'm sure there are some who would turn away from such an combination, but I embraced the experiment and boy was I glad I did. It was delish!
Being a fan of chocolate, when I got an email about a Chocolate Cook Off, it caught my eye! We've all been to BBQ cook offs and of course the ever popular chili cook off, but a cook off involving chocolate? Oh yes! Count me in. According to the invitation, I can browse around endulging in all sorts of chocolate treats then vote for my favorite. A panel of three very lucky judges will be making their own selection to determine the winner.
The nice thing about it is that all of this endulgence is cleverly disguised as a way to raise money for the Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library in Cashiers, North Carolina. If you have ever been to this part of western North Carolina, you already know Cashiers as a small, quaint mountain community that is the summer home for people who live the rest of the year in a much hotter climate like Florida or Atlanta. The temperature here in the summer rarely breaks 90 and if it does, it doesn't last very long. If you've been thinking about a vacation home in the mountains, February is a great time of year to look at homes and land for sale in the area. Plus, while you're here, you can help out the Library.
If you're in the area on Saturday, February 9th, stop by the Library at 2 pm. I know you'll be there for the chocolate, but a donation of $6 would really help the Library continue it's great work here in the mountains. For more information, contact the Library at 828-743-0215.
