TedTalks A Father-Daughter Dance....in Prison

Real Estate Agent with John L Scott Market Center 700512026

One of my favorite escapes from my work-a-day world is to stop over at TedTalks. This platform is FILLED with inspiration and laughter at times, on many topics and many levels. They are all only a few minutes in length.

Today, I looked at some of the titles and picked one out about fathers and daughters dancing in prison.

What this message said to me, ultimately is that there are no bars to keep us from doing what we want to do. Whether it be starting a nonprofit organization, changing lives or walking into a prison with 18 young girls who came to dance with their dads. "You never know, unless you ask",was one of the quotes from this lovely video about what you can accomplish!

Please enjoy this! (Get your tissues ready). Angela Patton delivers. Her non-profit organization is called Camp Diva, a summer camp where girls, ages 11 to 17, could be safe and instill in them principles that would prepare them for a healthy womanhood, named after her friend's daughter, Diva who died at the age of five through a firearm accident.

"Our daddies are our mirrors". Angela Patton

"Because a father is locked in does NOT mean he should be locked out of his daughter's life". Angela Patton

(This is for you, Dad, my hero).

Hi Gayle... I'll have to watch this tonight when I get home. I am such a TED fan. I hardly ever watch tv anymore, there's so many wonderful TED talks and so little time!

Hi GF - this is the second time I've tried to leave a comment - not sure, but something's up with my computer. Anyway, this is such a heart warming story of bringing daughters and fathers in prison together fostering stronger relationships. I see this is helping these young girls reconnecting with their dads as well as giving these men hope to make a better life for themselves and their families! I know the deep love and bond you had and still have with your dad! A father plays such an important role in our childrens life and this is the start of something wonderful that I hope catches on to other prisons. Thanks for sharing this video!

I love TED talks as well Gayle, and probably dialed into them when they first started. Anyone who can show us the way with a great example of life story I love to listen to. Daddies AND MOMS are mirrors and mentors for us!!! Camp Diva sounds wonderful....

Sharon, those TedTalks are right up your alley. Stay warm, missy!

Rene'--there are so many that speak to me in this platform. I could spend HOURS watching them. Hope you get to tonite.

KG~I would love to see some kind of follow-up piece on those who leave prison and turn their lives around. That would be a true testament to how people can change! (And yup, you KNOW I love my dad).

Brian, you said it perfectly! (Nice to see you...)

Kwee, just because they can't physically be there all of the time, doesn't mean that they don't matter in someone's life...for sure.

Gary, I loved this woman! And both my parents were totally instrumental in my life for completely different reasons...I'm SO blessed. Wasn't it terrific to see how happy the dads and girls were??  What fun!

Gayle  I have never heard of Ted until now.  Thanks for the intro.  I used to do a prison ministry so this one hit close to home.  Why this country locks so many people up amazes me...there are other ways and this one isn't working.
