Jack had two quotes from Arnold Glason on his blog this morning and I saw a lot to like about them in terms of real estate sales. The first is –
“Success is simple. Do what’s right, the right way, at the right time.”
That seems intuitive and something that any good Realtor should be doing; however, the second quote perhaps sums up in a few words why that doesn’t always happen –
“It’s a long way from words to deeds.”
In the automotive industry they used to say that you’ve got to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. For them that was about making great cars and trucks and not just talking about how great you are (were).
In real estate we occasionally hit Realtors® and teams who talk the talk, but don’t actually walk the walk. Some are a long way from turning their words into deeds – they don’t do the right things at the right time and some not in the right way. I usually hear about them when the original listign has expired and the seller is looking for a new Realtor who will do the right things.
A recent national news story on a real estate agent in Florida who is accused of self-serving fraud in dealing with distressed houses demonstrates where this can all lead. Once you blow off doing the right thing, you are on a slippery slope that can lead to fraud, since everything from that point on is based upon a lie, either to your client or to someone else in the deal.
So, keep it simple and keep it real is the best advice. There is no shortcut to turning your words into deeds. Just do the right things.
