Equal Justice Under Law.

Equal Justice Under Law.Indelibly inscribed on the portico of the United States Supreme Court building in Washington D.C. is the phrase “Equal Justice Under Law.”

Those four words carry a powerful message that tears into the sensibilities of justices, lawmakers, and citizens of every state and municipality.

Whether one is crafting, enforcing, or interpreting the law, the notion of universal application should override any inclination towards specific benefit.

It is not always an easy decision. Choosing “what is best for everyone” is often subjective and may be influenced by outside pressures.

Equality and fairness are often confused. There are times when equal justice under law may not seem fair at all.

But NO law is better than BAD law.

And I will always try to discern the difference!

Note: Richard Weisser is a candidate for GA House District 71.

It is in that word "EQUAL" where the difference in opinion lies. .the shadows where lobbyist operate from to help validate the goodness of their message .. . not necessarily our country. .

Fernando...

Hello my friend. I agree ... that public benefit should be the litmus test. Good law should make our lives better.

"what is best for everyone"

Is an impossible goal.

We take the opportunity to vote for the representatives that we believe will serve our individual interests.

Then, when the majority wins, they govern by representing the majority that elected them while always protecting the interests of the minority that did not.

Lenn...

I think that you and I are in agreement, as I stated the subjective nature of the perception.

I do subscribe to the theory that a Georgia State District has some common interests.

We all want a better economy, great schools, and great amenities.

Not all of us are environmentalists.

I am, and I believe that clean air and good water is what is "best" for my district. Those that do not agree may choose to vote for another candidate.

But I will not succumb to a quid pro quo vote for a favor mentality.
