Last year I went through every room, every drawer and organized. Threw out junk, bought plastic trays, you name it - I did it. It took about a month to go through the entire house but I felt so much better! But here it is - a year later and my drawers are in almost as bad a mess as they were before! The plastic trays are still there - but now they are full of clutter, pencils with broken tips and no erasers, candy wrappers, lonely paper clips, etc... and I wonder to myself... why did I bother?
Organization isn't something that you do once and forget - it's a lifestyle we all have to maintain. We have to encourage our families to follow suit as well. If there's only one member of the family that puts things back where it belongs then that person is going to be very frustrated or the house is going to be perpetually unorganized.
I'm not giving up though - I'm doing it again - going through the drawers - crawling under the beds, cleaning out the closets - if for no other reason - a sense of accomplishment. It may take another month - ten minutes at a time before work, after dinner, etc... but eventually it WILL get done.
