Where Do You Go For Chocolate in Carlsbad California?
Sometimes that chocolate craving hits (mine is almost constant) and you need a chocolate fix.
Chocoholics understand this, and see nothing wrong. It IS a major food group after all, and mere survivial depends on adequate supplies!
So if your chocolate stash has run out at home…hard to imagine but it CAN happen…where do you go for chocolate in Carlsbad California?
Well, some options depend on the time of day, but here are places to get that chocofix:
BEST – The Carlsbad Chocolate Bar in the heart of downtown at the corner of Carlsbad Village Drive and State Street, and my fave. They are open every day from 9 am until 9 pm (til 10 pm Friday and Saturday, and opening on Sunday at 10 am). So morning or night fixes are easily met
GREAT – The French Pastries Café. Mostly cakes and things like that (chocolate and otherwise) but oh so good. More limited hours (7 – 7 Monday through Friday, 7:30 – 5 on Saturday). 1005 Carlsbad Village Drive just west of the 5 freeway.
ALSO GOOD – Coldstone Creamery on the Coast Road in downtown Carlsbad Village and at The Forum in South Carlsbad. OK, it’s ice cream not actual chocolates but sometime a hot fudge sundae (with chocolate stuff or a brownie) is what you crave and need. 2967 Carlsbad Boulevard, Carlsbad Village. Hours: Sun-Thurs 11 am – 9:30 pm; Fri-Sat 11 am – 11 pm.
A WEST COAST FAVE – See’s Candies, in the Westfield Shopping Center at El Camino and the 78 freeway (2525 El Camino Real; hours: M-F 10 – 9; Sat 10 – 8; Sun 11 – 6)
Other options, particularly later at night, include Vons and Spouts. Yeah it’s not the Chocolate Bar or Godiva but sometimes a brownie, chocolate cake, or Mrs. Robinson’s Hot Fudge with Ben and Jerry’s works out just fine.
And to the south, in Encinitas (great when I am out in that general area showing homes or touring), Elizabethan Desserts has some amazing chocolate confections. At the Sunshine Gardens nursery at the corner of Quail Garden and Encinitas Boulevard. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am until 5 pm.
And of course a box of brownie mix (the one from Costco is terrific with 6 packages - just add pecans or walnuts) is the perfect staple in any chocoholics' cupboard for late night cravings when you are too lazy to drive anywhere.
