Moving on from one big house to another....608 N Spring Searcy AR had a fire.

This big old house on the corner has always interested me.  For as long as I have known it, it has been cut up into apartments.  It is just a couple of blocks from the one we were just discussing on North Main Street.

Surely it was at one time a showy house with proud owners who sat on the porch?

The newspaper reported that the fire department had to put out a fire inside the house a few days ago.  Suspecting that a fire may lead to a tear-down, I drove by and snapped a memory picture.  Here it is.

The court house gives a construction date of 1950 but surely it was built earlier than that.  So, Searcy Sleuths, what do you remember about this house?  To help with your memory, that is Moore Street on the side so the house is at the corner of Moore and Spring.

This house has undergone too many renovations to be recognizable by us old timers. When I read you description, I pondered "big old house" and "cut up into apartments" so I had to make an appointment with Mr. Google Man to take a look. The around the corner look explains all.

One has a choice of streeds to view from a nice porch.

Unfortunately, the Google Man wouldn't cooperate for a good corner view. You will need to use your imagination to see a good corner view.

Don, those are good Google views.  The view from the Moore side is almost more impressive than the view from Spring, which is where I took my picture.  I think your corner view is pretty good!  So you don't remember anything about this one?

A, it is the same house.

No clue as to any of my acquaintances living in this house.  Isn't that Dr. Welton Hudgins brick house across Moore?

B.L. Oliver lived in that area but I think it was a few houses north of this one.  Again, Anita's phone book should tell us.

Harold Gene, Jim Baugh Jones reminded me yesterday of the house that Mr. Oliver lived in.  It is just around the corner from this one and it was also a nice old house.  He remodeled it a few years back and it sold a few years ago.  I showed it and it was very nice.
