The Realtor Code of Ethics turns 100!
In 1913 the National Association of Realtors developed the Code of Ethics to protect the public and consumers. At the time, the only other
professions with a Code of Ethics were Law, Engineering and Medicine.
The National Association of Realtors is one of the few industries that actually has an enforcement process. A member found to be in violation of the Code of Ethics may be disciplined with more than one sanction.
When the Code of Ethics was adopted, there were no Real Estate licensing laws. The first laws were passed in Illinois in 1918 and the other states passed their laws in the 1920s and 1930s.
It's nice to know that we belong to an Association that cares about how we treat each other and the General Public.
