Simple steps for SEO Part 1 (Tags)

As we start on the New Year I am focused on helping local business increase their online presence.  I hope this will be a series of posts that will help small business get more traffic on their websites.  Search Engine Optimization is the art of creating webpages so search engines like Google will index pages and display them as top results.

Trying to get ranked for keywords try these few simple tips, these items are fairly simple and basic but must be done in order to achieve high ranking.

For an example we will be completing an example for my Wife's baking business. From using the Google Keyword Tool, I found that people are searching for "cake pops for baby shower"

Since most people are searching locally I suggest making a page for every city or area you work in. Yes, I know this will be time consuming but people who are looking for these items will find you and your competition will not spend the time to do this.

For this example I will use the town of Glendale Heights in IL

1. Page Title Tag - These are the words you will see at the top of your browser. For my example I would use "Cake Pops for Baby Shower in Glendale Heights".

2. Meta Description Tag - This is typically the text that is displayed underneath a result when you search. This should be in narrative form for my example I might put "Order Cake Pops for Baby Shower in Glendale Heights, See samples of cake pops for baby showers"

3. Meta Keyword Tag - These are the keywords that refer to the actual phrases some one would search for. For my example I would use "Cake pops baby shower Glendale Heights, cakepops for baby shower glendale heights, glendale heights cake pops"

While it can be debated on the effectiveness of these items, I believe that by following basic steps you can achieve good SEO. Keep on the look out for more posts about SEO.

Consider this Part 1 and look for more posts coming soon.

Best Wishes,

@Alan, I make sure to optimize my listings on those sites.  You can out rank them for long tail search terms which are hard to find/research but can bring the most closeable customers.
