A Copper Floor for only $600....in pennies!
Well, maybe $1000 total including adhesive and coating. This couple used about 60,000 pennies, adhesive and a clear cement to "carpet" the floor of their 234 square foot bedroom. You can read all about it at www.thepennyfloor.com.
They chose to go to the bank for rolls of pennies when their change jar was empty. I wonder how long it would have taken them to collect enough pennies for the project.
It took them 128 man hours to lay the floor. I have had projects that dragged on in my house, but 128 hours? Wow, that is dedication. But then again, how do you stop after you start a project like this?
The floor turned out beautifully and is very unique. Will an appraiser take the value of the coins into account? Doubtful, but my guess is that they didn't complete this project for re-sale value. They did it so that they could enjoy it. When it's time for them to move, they won't be able to take it with them, but if the potential buyer is not a fan of the penny floor they can install carpeting and cover it up!
What do you think?
