Make Your Blogs Look Better and Easier to Read, It's Simple

Hawk threatening toad

I  see many people putting pictures on their blogs on the left or right side of the page. All good but many people don’t set a horizontal space around the picture. This is what it looks like.

Depending on your font choice, it can be difficult to look at and isn't very attractive.

In order to make it look more attractive and easier on the reader's eyes, try this (when uploading the picture).  See that spot that says horizontal space?

Borders

Put something in there. I use 10 usually. Also, add something in the vertical space - again I use anywhere from 4 to 10. More if I'm trying to make a point.

While you're there add a border; put anywhere from 3 to 10 in there. Also, you can change the color of the border. The Style line is where you change the color of the border.

After you add the number into the border box, look at the style line (you may have to scroll right) you will see the words "border, 5px solid black; change the word black to red, blue, green, purple or whatever. Be sure to put the semi-colon after the color choice.

Your posts will not only look more professional; they will be easier to read. The object is to make it so that they want to come back and read more of your posts. Have fun!

Toni, great tutorial and a simple fix for putting white space around a photo. Framing the photo is also good.

Well thank you very much! I knew how to do all these things but wasn't sure how to change the color of the border. Learn something new everyday, which is why I think ActiceRain rocks.

Whatever you do, be consistent. So the blog posts "feel" and they sense this is another in your production. Familiarity and not over using all the edit bells and whistles in any of your media from blog posts to video and in between means pleasing to the eye. Part of the communication, delivery. Like restaurants have music,  lighting, circle colors, a theme...this layout on your media is critical to build an audience. Set a tone. Make a pleasant dining experience.

I used to put borders around my pictures but stopped.  I don't remember why.  Perhaps I should resurrect the practice to bump up my look.

Well explained. I tend not to use the border as much as I do the vertical space. It's a great tool.

This is so important!  It's one of the first things I learned here and I was lucky to put it into play early on.  I'm sure this will be very helpful to many new members!

By the way, what is the hawk in your photo?  Do you know if it is a Cooper's Hawk?  I wish I could recognize more hawks, the only one I can easily recognize are the Red-Tailed Hawk.
