Are You A Giver Or A Taker?

Are You A Giver Or A Taker - Real Estate Agent Training TipsAs I was meeting with new agents this past week, I had to reflect back on how I felt as a new agent over a decade ago.  I could see the excitement in their eyes that come with the start of a new career.  I could also see that fear and anxiety that comes with the start of a new career.

Where Do I Start?

As a new agent I remember thinking that I had a lot of work to do...and not knowing where to start.  Thankfully there were experienced agents in my office that were willing to share with me what type of information they gave their buyers and sellers.  This was of great comfort to me because I was absolutely clueless as to what I really needed.  I was then able to take that information and tweak it, to make it sound more like me.  It was a great starting point.

I Am A Giver

Are you a "giver" or a "taker"?  Although I think I was probably a "giver" all my life, this experience made me more of a giver.  Why?  Aside from the fact that I believe that it is the right thing to do, I believe that it enables new agents to get their business up and running much faster.  They don't have to spend weeks or months trying to figure out how to compile their buyer or listing presentations.

Why Not Be A Giver?

The other reason I like to "give" information is because...well, why not?  It's not like we all know the same people.  They will present to people they know and I will present to people I know.  In all my years I have never had an issue with us having the same client.  And let's face it, it feels better to be a giver than just a taker.

As my mother used to say, there is nothing new on the planet...and that includes your marketing materials.  So when an agent asks you for a little help, lend a helping hand and remember how it felt to be new and need some help.  And then think, why not?
