I See So Many People Getting it Sooooo Wrong!

I see so many people getting it so wrong.  I have people who half ass it all day long, then one of two things happen.  They either live a life of want or they end up taking work home with them.  I am a nazi when it comes to my work ethic. Hy schedule is such that....This is my reason for my laser like focus

  1. After the kids get off to school, I start to work...but I need a mental break by noon and;
  2. Go for a quick lunch workout and then eat my lunch at my desk back in the office,
  3. Work until 5:30 or so, and then am dad until my kids go down for the night;
  4. Hang with my wife until she passes out, then
  5. I boot up and work until I'm tired

I know people who sit around the office and gab all day.  They are facebook masters and they have little production.  Then they complain about not having enough time to get stuff done.  They either live incomplete lives when it comes to their goals or they end up coming back to work at odd hours trying to complete the things that they have failed to accomplish during the hours of social interaction.

Laser like focus is what it will take to win in 2013.  Our business is hard and it's getting harder by the moment.  Government regulations and guidelines are over the top.  Mastery is what separates the little ones from the big dawgs!  I want to run with the big dogs, but only a laser like focus will take me there.  In 2012, I doubled my income, in 2013, I am seeking to increase my income by 50%......

I WORK TO LIVE, I DON'T LIVE TO WORK.

Great Post Larry and I agree 100%. Need to plan your work and work your plan. Schedule your day and it won't get away from you as easily!

Larry, what a beautiful family photo and great work ethic.  Like Karen Fiddler, working in an office filled with people is distracting for me.  I need to be more rigid about my work cut off time.  That is not always possible as a Realtor.

All that matters is that you work on productive things during the day.  I keep my day and week extremely structured in order to make it the most efficient possible.  Working for work's sake is a wasted effort.

Yes, it is about what you CHOOSE to do.  You can choose an easy, laid-back work day and you can choose to play catch-up at night and at home.  You can choose to focus on work at the office and choose to focus on family at home.

The same way people can choose to juggle a smart phone while they drive or choose to park somewhere, answer all their calls, and then give complete attention to driving.

I think that making choices will steer your lifestyle in the fashion you desire.  I do a lot of driving to properties around town, and I use the time to recharge from the intensity of work.  I review my tasks before I start the car and when I arrive.  I don't want to arrive burnt out from overthinking when I should be focused on the road.

Larry, I'm the same way.  My friends know not to call me during the day and that I don't go out to lunch.  I take a lunch break when I get hungry and go for an afternoon walk.  Since I'm also caregiving for my husband, I have to remind myself to break away from the computer and go downstairs to check on him at least once an hour to see if he needs anything.  I try to spend evenings with him, but if he snoozes, I try to get some more work done.  I can never get much done at the office, because of all the social interaction.  I don't know how people do it who go into the office each day.  I work from home 99% of the time.

I have found myself occasionally complacent, so I'm happy when I can shake myself up and start over the right way. Happy I can still learn a better way. Joy

You're only successful if you know what you want, where to go to get it and a plan to achieve it and all of that starts with you and the choices you make and nobody is successful without WORK. Great post, I'm on board, put me in coach, it's show time!

Your nice family should always be a priority. Being a LO is tough work & I agree that you must always keep a laser focus on your goals whatever they may be.  Take it easy on all the 'imperfect' folks out there on boring FB.

What a beautiful family and photo of them.  This is going to be a tough year for Lenders Loan Officers - Sounds like you will do well with your work ethics and attitude!

Larry: I like the way you've scheduled order and time for yourself, your family, your business, and your exercise. Being focused and having a good work ethic combined with the balance of all the other parts of your life makes you very successful I'm sure. Keep up the good work and enjoy 2013 in every way.

What a great blog!  Obviously you have your priorities straight.  Family, indeed comes first, but work ethic, if done properly will give you that time.  Great family photo. Congrats on your success in 2012.  Here's to a prosperous 2013!!

I'm the same way - I like to get started early and get the most important stuff (lead generation) done first thing in the morning.  Get your morning straight and the rest of the day works itself out.

Back when I was in real estate we didn't have Facebook - so agents played computer games. And before we had computers, I worked with an agent who read romance novels and crocheted on her floor day.

Then - "Poor me, no transactions."

You certainly do have a beautiful family...

Yep, after about 35 years in retail, having to be there when "the sign on the door says that I'm OPEN" (I was the Boss), it's now nice NOT to have that sign! I still work just about as hard, but WHEN I want to, for the most part! More money now, and more free time for the grand-kids!

My day is a little more flexible than yours.  But it is still disciplined.  I basically am trying to spend more time with the family.  But Monday to Friday you will find me in my office working not goofing off.  Evenings and Weekends I do work, but only when I have to.
