Don't Let Your House Be the Ugly House on the Block

Don't Let Your House Be The Ugly House on the Block!

Even though we are entering February it is time to walk the parameter of your home to see what types of repairs are needed this spring.

I did this very thing and realized someone has been failing at their job. Some of the things I noted were that it was time to replace all outside water faucets. The ones that were still usable appeared to be on their last leg. One was non existent and had been since we purchased the home. We had planned on fixing it but out of site and out of mind, and it fell off our mental to-do list.

The other things were some of the soffits need to be replaced along with the screen venting. It appears some critters won out in their determination to get into condo living in our attic. There are bigger issues too.

The big ticket items come in with a new roof, garage doors, and a front door.  These are things that may or may or may not be needed; but I want to keep the value of our home as high as possible. I also would like to have a new driveway poured or have a brick driveway installed.  Just for fun I would like to have my back patio removed and rebuild a new one with a stove and refrigerator.  Like I said some of these items are not needed but would be great to have.

Keeping your property in tip top shape will keep the value of your home. It also provides a safe environment for your family. Let’s go one step further and say it will make your neighborhood block appealing thereby keeping property values high and making your neighborhood desirable to live in.

All Realtors know if the neighborhood looks bad so will the values. Don’t let your house be the ugly house on the block.

Excellent point Sussie, it is a pay me now or pay me later situation keeping up with maintenance. Deferred maintenance is a bear to tackle down the road...

Sussie, I'm making my to do list now.  I ran short on time this Fall for outdoor painting projects.  So, they'll be first with a few additions.

Judith: I know! It seems that it was just yesterday I noticed the faucet and now way later it is still not done!

Rose: You have to keep maintenance up or it will only make things worse.

Michelle: Any day now I will be able to get my car back into the garage! LOL!

JERRY! Yeah I hear ya! Even thou I did not put it on the list it is a want item. We don't have any now.

Debbie: Yes I know I have a long wish list. But hey! I deserve it so does my house!

Robert: I hear you guys have been doing a lot of upkeep and upgrade!

Nancy: That is so true if you are selling, some buyer will be willing to take thousands off the sales price and spend hundreds fixing the place themselves!

Gary: Yes it is pay me now or... however,,,it's going to be pay me a whole lot more later!

Judith: Thanks for the Comment, I was surprised it got featured.

Edward: So true landscaping can make a world of difference in the visual appearance of your property.

Mike: The list appears to be getting longer and longer.

My property manager gets after me all the time for items that should be done. The format is called a 'Honey Do' list

Sussie-when I drive through a community and see the "ugly" house I always feel so sorry for their neighbors.  If you keep it up throughout the year it won't seem like such a big chore.

Ed, My honey won't do his list either!

I agree with you Kathy it is not a big chore if you do a little at a time.

Quality starts with us as we are the professionals in regards to housing so we have no excuse to let our house be the ugly house on the block.

Sussie,

All those things you mentioned come with home ownership. Even with the periodic maintenance items...it's still far better than renting.

Joel: I think you have a great marketing idea with the post card reminder!

Christina! I hear you! WE are sisters in arms. My husband use to be a construction worker. So yeah nothing gets fixed here either. I have to initiate it and hire someone else to do it.

Steve: Yes it is a sorry issue when we are a Realtor and our houses look less then good. Yeah I said good.

Richard: You got that right I would not like to live in an apartment. Would if I had to but rather not. I'd lease a home first.

Good morning Richard and Beth. Good advise yes indeed.
