You might not know this, but Realtors that are members of the National Association of Realtors are held to a very high standard. This year marks the 100th anniversary of NAR's Birth to their Code of Ethics. According to the NAR website, the Code of Ethics was designed to raise the standards of professionalism and service in the real estate industry. The code of Ethics ensures that Realtors always keep the client's best interest in mind when conducting business. This includes respecting the Fair Housing Laws, and working cooperatively with other Realtors to make sure client's purchase plans are moving forward. The Code of Ethics, also includes verbiage to make sure Realtors that break the code of ethics are properly disciplined. All Realtors are required to go through proper training of what NAR's Code of Ethics consists of and to take a refresher course every 4 years. Knowing and following the Code of Ethics allows Realtors to practice good business. Clients can rest on the thought that their agent has made the promise to follow this code in which their best interest will be a priority.
