I went to the Rocky Mountain Air Show at the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (formerly known as the Broomfield Airport) in Broomfield Colorado for the first time last year, and it immediately became my most anticipated local summer event. We went to the Friday night events, and it was perfect - avoided the heat of the day and watched the amazing acrobatics against the backdrop of the sun setting behind the peaks of the Rockies. Must be a great view from on high!

The 2013 Airshow is on August 16-18, I recommend you get your tickets now! Kids 5 years old and under are free. You can buy a ticket for just Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, or the entire weekend. I think there is also a $10 charge for parking, and they'll be running shuttles. That would be great because we had to walk a long way last year, which was OK on the way in but it was dark on the way out, and we were towing a 2-year old.

This year, the show is featuring FIFI, the world's only flying WWII flying B-29 Superfortress, which will be offering flights to the public. Rides will also be available in the T-6 Texan, TBM Avenger, C-45 Expediter, and a P-51 Mustang. I also heard the B-17 Flying Fortress 'Memphis Belle' will be back, but now I'm not sure of that because she's not in the ad. Still, there's plenty of opportunity for an amazing flight if you get scheduled asap.

The really big news for this year is the rocket launch. Yes, you heard that right! The Rocky Mountain Airshow is the first and only civilian airshow authorized by the FAA to have a high powered sport rocket launch (Star & Stripes) or drone demonstrations. The rocket launch will take place on Saturday, August 17. The drone demonstrations aren't scheduled as of yet.
Also new this year will be a jet glider and wing walking team, plus the 90th anniversary celebration of the Colorado Air National Guard.

And if that's not enough, there will be fireworks and a hot air balloon 'glow' Friday night, early morning balloon launches, kids six years old and up can enjoy Adventure Pavillion, and more - check out the internet site for the Rocky Mountain Air Show.
Now, I'm off to get my tickets before the rest of you do!
