The weatther in southeast Mesa Arizona's Augusta Ranch has started to warm after our recent cold snap, and I mean cold!! Night temperatures in the low 20's sent people scrambling to cover up their plants to keep them from freezing. The local news was full of pictures depicting frozen pools and pipes. Good thing this kind of cold is rare, because we're warm weather creatures here in Mesa Arizona. Weather in Arizona is what we all complain about. Too cold, too hot, but in the end, it's part of what I love about Arizona. The subject on everone's mind now is if the plants and trees will come back from the frost damage. The local landscape experts advise to wait until the growing season starts again in March to begin cuuting back any plants. The reasoning is that there is always the possibility of another freeze, and if you've already cut plants back, the new freeze will probably kill the newly trimmed plants outright. Once the frost possibility has gone away, landscapers say the best approach is to wait until you see new growth, and then cut the dead vegitation back to the new growth. Plants grow like crazy here in our warm and sunny springs, so if you have some patience now, many of your plants, shrubs, and trees will come back.
If you don't have any frost damaged plants because you don't own a home, now is a great time to buy a home.
